Earthly Survival

How we live with human and non-human kin, and how we imagine these deep and intractable bonds, is key to the emotional draw of Donna Haraway's work, especially after the book “When Species Meet”. To me, when I see Haraway use the phrase “earthly survival”, I think of survival as more than just the human race enduring, or civilisation continuing on, but as a collective effort to mitigate, as far as possible, the current ecocide that is taking place on our planet. “Storytelling for Earthly Survival” is the title of the documentary about Donna Haraway - it’s excellent, and not only summarizes her philosophy, but also visually transports you to a world beyond what can be seen on the surface, as well as including personal details about her life. I feel like the film manages to gently gesture towards a biography of Worlding beyond cisheteronormativity. Person: Donna Haraway
